CoolNUS-BEAM Receives Special Mention at Singapore Open Research Awards 2026

We are pleased to share that CoolNUS-BEAM, a collaborative research project at the National University of Singapore (NUS), has received a Special Mention at the Singapore Open Research Awards 2026, presented at the Singapore Open Research Conference on 5 November 2026.

Led by Assistant Professors Yu Qian Ang and Lup Wai Chew, CoolNUS-BEAM (Baselining, Evaluation, Action and Monitoring) transforms the NUS Kent Ridge Campus into a living laboratory for urban climate research.

The project brings together a network of 40 weather stations, field experiments, and an interactive digital twin to better understand urban microclimates and evaluate strategies for mitigating urban heat.

A central focus of CoolNUS-BEAM is its commitment to open science and reproducible research. Through publicly accessible datasets, open-source code, interactive dashboards, and a companion Python package, the project aims to make urban climate data and research tools accessible to researchers, practitioners, and the wider community.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of the CoolNUS-BEAM research team and collaborators across NUS, and reinforces our commitment to making urban climate research more open, accessible, and impactful.
